Weed Wrangle 2023

July 15, 2023

Weed Wrangle is a national event where volunteers assist with the management of invasive plants.  This year Escambia County Extension is looking for help to manage two invasive plants on Pensacola Beach.
Apr 22, 2023 – Biking for Cogongrass (Earth Day Search)

We plan to ride bikes around Pensacola Beach searching for invasive cogongrass.  The plant should be in bloom this time of year and easier to find.  We will not remove, only report locations.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:

A bicycle, water bottle, sun protection, and a way to record locations (your phone, a notebook, etc.)

WE WILL MEET AT THE CASINO BEACH PARKING LOT NEAR THE VISITORS CENTER AT 8:00AM

Apr 29, 2023 – Beach Vitex Removal

We plan to remove invasive beach vitex from public lands on Pensacola Beach.  This plant should also be in bloom soon and easier to find.  Much of it has been marked with orange tape.  We will be removing this problem plant.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

Hand tools for removing vines and roots (shovels, shears, loppers, hand clippers), water bottle, sun protection, closed toed shoes.

WE WILL MEET AT THE CASINO BEACH PARKING LOT NEAR THE VISITORS CENTER AT 8:00AM
