SUMMARY:Weed Wrangle 2023
DESCRIPTION:Weed Wrangle is a national event where volunteers assist with the management of invasive plants.  This year Escambia County Extension is looking for help to manage two invasive plants on Pensacola Beach.\nApr 22\, 2023 – Biking for Cogongrass (Earth Day Search)  \nWe plan to ride bikes around Pensacola Beach searching for invasive cogongrass.  The plant should be in bloom this time of year and easier to find.  We will not remove\, only report locations. \nWHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING: \nA bicycle\, water bottle\, sun protection\, and a way to record locations (your phone\, a notebook\, etc.) \nWE WILL MEET AT THE CASINO BEACH PARKING LOT NEAR THE VISITORS CENTER AT 8:00AM \n  \nApr 29\, 2023 – Beach Vitex Removal \nWe plan to remove invasive beach vitex from public lands on Pensacola Beach.  This plant should also be in bloom soon and easier to find.  Much of it has been marked with orange tape.  We will be removing this problem plant. \nWHAT YOU NEED TO BRING: \nHand tools for removing vines and roots (shovels\, shears\, loppers\, hand clippers)\, water bottle\, sun protection\, closed toed shoes. \nWE WILL MEET AT THE CASINO BEACH PARKING LOT NEAR THE VISITORS CENTER AT 8:00AM \n  \nTO REGISTER FOR EITHER EVENT\, CONTACT RICK O’CONNOR AT (roc1@ufl.edu) 850-475-5230 ext.1111

DESCRIPTION:Please join the Longleaf Pine Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society Saturday March 25th at 10:00 a.m. for a native adventure at Bone Creek Recreation Area – 4915 Bone Creek Rd. Holt\, FL. (map link below).\nWe will carpool from the University Mall NE parking area in front of JC Penney and across from Firestone Tire leaving at 9:15 a.m.. It is about a 40 minute drive from there. After Bone Creek we will visit a location about 9 miles south near the Yellow River/Guest Lake area. We should be done no later than 3 p.m.\, however you may leave at any time.
