Mickey and Jerry Quigley were presented with the Pillar of Pride by FFGC 2nd VP, Mary Whistler, at the Fall District I meeting on October 10, 2024. Mickey, a retired Florida State Park Ranger, is the longtime FFGC Chairman for both Adopt-a-Park and Parks, Trails and Greenways. Jerry, a retired technician, probably can’t say he retired from fixing everything! For many years, Mickey has volunteered at Wekiva Youth Camp, contributing her environmental knowledge and her connections with the Florida Park Service for the good of the children at the Nature Hut, for one! Retired again from full-fledged volunteering at the WYC, Mickey and Jerry both rented an electric car and ‘sped’ off for seven weeks, volunteering again — getting the camp move-in ready for campers and staff! Then, made sure all the toilets flushed and lights worked, just to name a couple of things they kept working! And Mickey and Jerry got up early to drive the passenger trailer ‘Crosley’ for morning trips around Wekiwa Springs State Park so campers and volunteers can get glimpses of the ever-extrodinary wildlife that lives at the park. Wild turkeys, pregnant deer, One-eared Buck, black bear(s) at the scratcin’ post, gopher tortoises and y’all need to go there to see what else yourselves!!!! The 500+ campers will be forever enchanted by our natural environment, thanks in bunches to you two! Thank you Mickey and Jerry!
